Vet Nurse Leela

Vet Nurse Leela

Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, BSc (Animal Behaviour)

Leela’s love of all things furry, feathery, scaly and slimy began at a very young age. Growing up in rural Queensland, she was surrounded by various pets and wildlife.

Leela received a Bachelor of Science (Animal Behaviour) in 2014 and has worked in the Bird and Reptile Department of a speciality pet store in Brisbane for eight years. Here, she was responsible for maintaining the health and welfare of many different species and provided husbandry advice to many pet parents during that time. It was through organising and assisting with the health checks of these animals that Leela decided she wanted to pursue a career in veterinary nursing to specialise in exotics. Leela completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2023 and is extremely excited to begin her exotics nursing career with the Unusual Pet Vets.

Hobbies and Interests

Outside of work, Leela enjoys going herping, hiking, drawing and painting and has an interest in wildlife photography. In her down time she ais currently working on creating a large bioactive enclosure for her frogs. Leela also enjoys playing video games to unwind.

Owned Pets

Leela is a proud a pet parent to a Rough-banded Knob-tailed Gecko (“Furious” George), two cockatiels (Meeko and Merlin), two Green Tree Frogs (Big Frog and Midori) and a cheeky little budgie called Oswald.

Cannot speak highly enough of the caring and lovely staff at UPV Osborne Park. Particularly to Dr Kelly for the wonderful treatment and compassion she displayed caring for my much loved Bugz. Definitely recommend this practice. Simply the Best.

It’s a great vet for exotic pets, we would like to thank Dr Kiara and the nurses for all the help they have done for the bunnies especially when they have been unwell.

Excellent service, caring and professional advice, and very good handling for our pet bird, on our first visit today at The Unusual Pet Vets, Jindalee. Very helpful, and they also provided further reading for us via email after our appointment regarding a few things we asked about. All staff were lovely and friendly – from the initial phone booking (you can do internet bookings too) to and including the consult. Thank you very much – we’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend.
