What is the HopStart package?
Our HopStart package is an all-inclusive package made for guinea pig owners. The first few months with any new pet can be daunting so this package will give you peace of mind while providing your guinea pig with premium veterinary care. It is designed for new guinea pig owners who are just starting with a baby guinea pig or owners of mature guinea pig who just haven’t had time to organise getting all their guinea pigs vet work done.
What is included in the Guinea Pig HopStart package?
- Sterilisation Surgery
Sterilisation (desexing) is a very important part of preventative health care in guinea pigs. A number of problems can occur if your guinea pig is left un-sterilised, including ovarian cysts and reproductive tumours in females and faecal impaction in males. In almost all cases sterilised guinea pigs will bond better with their owners and other guinea pigs. Our HopStart package covers the cost of the surgery, a day of hospitalisation, fluid therapy during surgery and all medications including multimodal pain relief. Your guinea pig will have one of our vets and a dedicated nurse to monitor them throughout the day, during surgery and on recovery to make sure they are kept comfortable and happy. - Vitamin C Supplementation:
Guinea pigs don’t have the ability to synthesise their own vitamin C, meaning all of it must come from their diet. A range of fresh vegetables can help to supply vitamin C, but in many cases, an additional supplement is needed to make sure they are getting enough. A bag of Vitamin C supplements for guinea pigs is provided in the package.
- Microchipping and Registration:
Microchip identification is a safe and highly effective means of identifying your pet. Microchips enable lost guinea pig to be reunited with their owners. Microchip implantation and lifetime registration on a national database is included in the package. - Health and Dental Check:
Guinea pigs will often hide underlying illness’ from their owners. Our HopStart package includes a full health and dental check over by one of our guinea pig vets. - Nails, Food and Treats:
Long nails are no fun for anyone! We’ll clip your guinea pigs’ nails and then send them home with a bag of recommended guinea pig food, as well as some yummy treats!
