Why should I come to you over my regular vet?
Unusual pets are different to dogs and cats. They have unique needs, problems and husbandry requirements. Our practice has been developed and designed to cater directly for these needs. Our veterinarians have devoted their veterinary careers to studying the species that we see so that we can provide a higher level of care, knowledge and advice than regular ‘dog and cat’ practices. In addition to this we have a range of state-of-the-art equipment that allows us to provide a high level of care for your pet.
What animals do you see?
We see a large range of rabbits, birds, reptiles, guinea pigs, rats, mice, ferrets and amphibians. We also do a small amount of work with native mammals. We do not see any dogs and cats.
Where is your practice located?
We have two clinics located conveniently both south and north of the river. Our southern clinic is located in Murdoch within the Animal Hospital at Murdoch University (www.theanimalhospital.com.au). Our northern clinic is located in Balcatta within the Vet24 veterinary hospital (www.vet24.com.au). For more information and maps see our contact us page.
What are your opening hours?
We are open as follows:
- Weekdays: 7am-6pm at our Balcatta practice, 8am-6pm at our Murdoch practice.
- Saturday: 9am-5pm at both of our practices.
- Sunday: 10am-4pm at both of our practices.
- We are closed for all public holidays. For more information or to contact us please click here.
How do I book an appointment?
The easiest way to book is to give us a call on 9345 4644 (Balcatta) or 9360 6454 (Murdoch). We generally do not accept email bookings as often when we have tried this the open consultation slot has been filled by another person by the time we have received your email back to confirm.
Are you more expensive than my local vet?
We pride ourselves on offering the best care possible for your unusual or exotic pet, we do not see any dogs or cats and are the only multi-vet clinic in Western Australia to offer this service. We have two clinics located both north and south of the river for your convenience (see our Contact Us page for more information). We have invested in a range of expensive specialised equipment and facilities as well as employed the best exotic-animal only vets and nurses that we can. Our vets have all undergone extensive additional training in exotic animal medicine and surgery. The combination of the aforementioned allows us to offer a specialised service that caters directly for your pet's needs. In general our charges are similar to what you expect to pay for quality care for your dog or cat, and in many cases are actually much cheaper. You will find some cheaper veterinary clinics around for some procedures however we do not pride ourselves on providing cheap care - we pride ourselves on providing the best care.
How much are your consultations?
Most vets have 15 minute consultations. We do not find this allows us enough time to adequately discuss and examine your pet and because of this our consultations last for around 30 minutes and are $105 Monday to Saturday or $125 on Sunday.
Can I book in by email?
We generally do not accept email bookings as often when we have tried this the open consultation slot has been filled by another person by the time we have received your email back to confirm. The easiest way to book is to give us a call on 9345 4644 (Balcatta) or 9360 2876 (Murdoch). We are now also offering an online booking service for our Murdoch practice (and hopefully soon our Balcatta location).
