Highly skilled, caring, and professional - this vet comes with my whole hearted recommendation. I have seen a LOT of vets in my lifetime!
After loosing x3 guinea pigs due to mis diagnosis, I found this practice. Specialising in unusual pets. It has been a lifesaver. I will never get over loosing those piggies, but at the unusual Pet Vet, I can trust this will never happen again! They have always got the diagnosis and treatment correct!
I drive 2 hrs in challenging traffic and $40 of tolls, but I would never take them anywhere else. The care they receive is outstanding! The team is compassionate, and extremely caring often following up on how the Piggie is after the appointment. Their diagnostic skills are flawless. Their skill and care has given many of my piggies longer happier lives.
Recently Tegan preformed surgery to remove a large complex, cancerous abdominal mass. Pathology confirmed it was completely removed, with clear margins. As a human theatre nurse I can only admire and appreciate the skill and experience it took to be able to preform this correctly the first time, and am so grateful I found this clinic! Piggie is great. 1 week later running around like noting had happened post laparotomy!!!

The whole team at Waterloo are lovely, really helpful and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend them.

We've been going to this clinic for over four years for our pet ducks, Chippy and Oopsie/Donald. The team has always been incredibly caring, attentive, and patient, especially during some difficult and emotional times for us.

We're so grateful for the professionalism shown at every visit and would like to extend our appreciation to Dr Shelby, Dr Kirby, Chapin, and the rest of the team.

I couldn't recommend Dr Shelby enough!
I started out with three guinea pigs in 2023 and I had never dealt with an unusual pet before.
While I would do anything for my pigs, costs are always a worry for me.

When I first went to Shelby when one of my pigs grew her first lump I'm pretty sure I cried. I was worried about my pigs and how much it was going to cost me. Shelby broke down the cost of the surgery and explained why we needed each item on the quote so I could make really informed decisions.

I lost one of my pigs due to Kidney Disease and the day before when her bloods came back to confirm her diagnosis, Shelby called me to tell me the news she was so understanding and kind and when I came into the vet the next day to put my pig to sleep I had Dr Kirby take care of us and she was also so kind and patient and sweet. It was my first pet to die and my first guinea pig so it was really hard

My visit yesterday was a check up for my remaining two and my potential new additions. I now want to always check the bloods of my pigs in case they are hiding something like my other pig. Shelby is always so understanding and only puts forward operations and procedures that she thinks are necessary and puts my mind at ease about my pigs health.

She always says hello to me in the waiting room, she remembers our past consults and makes me feel heard with my concerns. These seem like basic things but there are some vets who have introduced themselves to me more than once because they have forgotten me or want to speed through the appointment because they are running late but I have never felt that with Shelby.

On top of all of that, when I brought in some rescues I was fostering she advised me on what I needed to do such as flea prevention and checked them for worms - things I didn't even think about.

UPV also always checks up in the days after to see how the animals are doing and if there are any more concerns I have from the previous consult. I will say though sometimes it does just feel like a check the box situation unless it is the vet that treated the animal following up.

I would recommend Dr Shelby in a heartbeat to anyone who has an unusual pet.

I will disclaim that the prices are quite high but I would follow Shelby if she were to move around so I guess I am more so recommending Dr Shelby but I haven’t had a negative experience with the vet either

Thank you again for your specialty, love and care and for being there for our so-called beloved exotic animal (the first time a whole family learnt about this category: from the vet hospital to the vet specialist). And you even took a photo of her for us to show us that she was well looked after. 🥰

I had an extremely good experience at this practice. My vet, Dr Sang Tran, was very professional but also very kind and approachable. She handled my bird confidently and with care even though my bird hates hands and is very bitey when touched. She answered all questions patiently and in an understandable way so I left feeling reassured that my bird had received the best care.
