Receptionist, Tarryn (she/her)
Tarryn brings a unique blend of experience from both the education and veterinary worlds. With over 15 years as a qualified early childhood and kindergarten teacher, and extensive experience as a childcare centre director. Tarryn has always had a passion for education, especially when it comes to fostering empathy and responsibility through teaching children about animal care.
In December 2020, Tarryn leaped into the world of veterinary medicine, joining the Bird and Exotic Animal Clinic. She began as an animal attendant, primarily caring for boarding animals, and quickly found herself at home in the world of exotics. Her role expanded to include reception duties, and she eventually took on the position of Customer Service Manager.
Combining her background in education with her love of animals, Tarryn now thrives in a role that allows her to support both clients and their beloved pets, while continuing to learn and grow within the field of exotic veterinary care. She has a particular interest in rabbits—especially after sharing her life with a calm, social rabbit who was uniquely suited to being around young children. With strict boundaries in place to ensure her well-being, this rabbit occasionally visited the kindergarten and became a beloved part of the learning environment, helping children understand the importance of gentle handling, routine care, and respect for animals’ individual needs.
Hobbies and Interests
Tarryn has a background in musical theatre, holding a degree in the field and a deep love for musicals such as Les Misérables, Wicked, Rent, Legally Blonde, and Avenue Q. She also likes to unwind with puzzles and romance novels.
As a neurodivergent individual, Tarryn is a passionate advocate for neurodiversity. She welcomes opportunities to support clients at The Unusual Pet Vets in Flemington who may benefit from a more inclusive or sensory-aware experience. She encourages anyone who might need extra support during their visit to reach out and explore how the clinic can better meet their needs. Tarryn is also a proud LGBTQIA+ ally.
Outside of work and advocacy, Tarryn is a solo mum by choice and cherishes time spent with her young daughter and extended family.
