Dr Kiara Simonis
BSc, DVM, FANZCVS (Avian Medicine and Surgery)
Since getting her cockatiel as a child, Kiara dreamed of being an avian vet. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2018, having completed a wide variety of exotics-focused placements.
Dr Kiara commenced her residency in Avian Medicine and Surgery in 2021 under the mentorship of Dr Hamish Baron. During her training, she undertook an externship at the Dubai Falcon Hospital, which had a particular focus on endoscopy and endoscopic surgery. She completed her Fellowship exams in 2025, making her one of the small number of avian specialists in the country.
Hobbies and Interests
Dr Kiara is a huge lover of all animals but has an extra soft spot for birds, reptiles and rabbits. Outside of work and study, Kiara enjoys tending to her oversized indoor plant collection, spending time with her pets and anything that involves the outdoors and animals.
Owned Pets
At home, Kiara is the very proud mother of a bullmastiff called Murphy, a cockatiel called Tinkerbell (who she has had since she was 10 years old), a children’s python named Boots and four green tree frogs (Nori, Lemi, Sir Charles and Lotus).
