Vet Nurse Melissa (Lissy)
Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing + Diploma in Veterinary Nursing of Zoological Species (Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Avian Species, Reptiles and Amphibians, Small Mammals, and Wildlife)
Lissy started her nursing career in a small animal veterinary clinic shortly after finishing high school and completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing via traineeship in 2010. In 2012, Lissy moved onto a new clinic, which handled a large volume of wildlife cases and saw a wide variety of species. Ferrets have always been Lissy’s absolute favourite animal, and her passion for their care, along with her wildlife experience, led to an interest in nursing exotic species.
In 2016, Lissy found her forever clinic with The Unusual Pet Vets, and has been in her element caring for all of the weird and wonderful creatures that come through our doors. Lissy completed her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing of Zoological Species (avian, reptiles and amphibians, exotic small mammals, and wildlife) in 2020 and has recently started studying aquarium medicine.
Hobbies and Interests
Outside of work, Lissy loves spending time with her family, friends, and pets, rollerskating, watching horror movies and anime, reading novels and manga, playing video games, karaoke, crafting, gardening, op-shopping, swimming and camping.
Owned Pets
Past and presently, Lissy is the proud Mum of Heartspark, Delilah, Khoshekh, Katya and Kitbus (ferrets), Ava and Zelda (miniature dachshunds), Kewpie (sphynx cat), and Mittens, Bootsie, Whiskers, Fluffy and Snowball (giant burrowing cockroaches). Over the years, Lissy has also had the joy of handrearing orphaned ferret kits and fostering adult ferrets awaiting adoption.
