Dr Akshata Taggers
BVSc MANZCVS (Avian Medicine and Surgery)
Dr Akshata has been inspired to look after avian and exotic pets ever since her first budgerigar aviary as a child. Akshata has worked widely within Australia and spent some time in the UK, traveling and practicing veterinary medicine, lucky enough to treat badgers, hedgehogs, and squirrels.
The sunshine beckoned and Akshata returned to Australia to complete an internship in avian, exotic pet, and wildlife medicine at the University of Queensland in 2019.
In 2021, Akshata achieved membership to the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Avian Medicine and Surgery.
Akshata is currently undertaking a residency training program to obtain specialist status in Avian medicine through the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. She is also completing her Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) in Zoological Medicine) through the University of Edinburgh.
Hobbies and Interest
Outside work, Akshata enjoys travelling with her husband, all sorts of handicrafts, learning about coffee, and perfecting her latte art every morning.
Owned Pets
Dr Akshata is a proud pet parent to Buttercup the cantankerous cockatiel who has helped chew up more than her share of textbooks, and Bert and Ernie, two cute guinea pigs.
