Wildlife bird species are a common occurrence in the vet industry often when clients find or rescue them from the road or their front and back yards. We must remember that many of these wild species are also commonly kept as household pets. Birds such as pink and grey galahs, lorikeets and corella’s are some of the more popular ones.

Before sending them off to a wildlife carer or determining treatment for them if injured, make sure we remember to scan them for microchips! You never know when you might actually have a beloved pet brought in as a stray wild bird.

Here at UPV we do a lot of microchipping on these types of birds for this exact reason—so if lost they can hopefully be reunited with their families and not mistaken as a wild bird.
