We had a special visitor in recently – Axel the Axolotl!
He unfortunately had developed a growth on one of his gills. A needle aspirate taken from the lump revealed a localised infection and abscess. He was placed on antibiotic therapy, the mass improved and looked a lot better
however unfortunately it was still present.
We were concerned that the abscess may have been secondary to another problem so we took Axel to surgery to remove the mass.
The surgery went well however unfortunately the mass came back as a type of cancer (a sarcoma) on histopathological analysis. When we last spoke to Axel’s lovely owners he was going well.
