The Unusual Pet Vet Peninsula is a busy urban practice that treats exclusively avian species, reptiles and small mammals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and mice. Cases we see are predominately privately owned pets, although we occasionally see a small number of wildlife cases.
Veterinary Student Applications
All prospective students must select the dates you would like to attend The Unusual Pet Vets Peninsula using the calendar below. Please fill in the form beneath the calendar with your requested dates and cover letter. Not all placements can be accepted due to the large volumes of students that spend time with us. An interest in unusual pet medicine is essential to ensure you get the most out of the placement.
Please note that at this stage we are only accepting students in their final year of Veterinary Science studies, placement is for a minimum of two weeks and a maximum of one month.
If you are not in final year but looking to do pre-clinical placement, unfortunately we are not able to accomodate you. Please apply when you are preparing for your final year.
Veterinary science students will be asked to provide adequate insurance documentation. This must be provided two weeks prior to arrival and is usually available through your university. Overseas applicants are also advised to consider personal travel insurance in addition to university coverage.
Accommodation is not provided at the clinic but some students in the past have used the accomodation below and found it affordable and convenient:
