Providing The Best Veterinary Care For Your Pet Reptile

Our name, “The Unusual Pet Vets”, is certainly no accident. We cater to a host of exotic animals of different shapes and sizes, fur and feathers – and even scales.

The Unusual Pet Vets are reptile vets located in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Canberra. We have a true understanding of what it means to take comprehensive care of your reptilian pets. From bearded dragon care all the way to snake care, we have taken the time to develop our expertise.

Our knowledge of reptiles extends past the norm, covering the entire spectrum of reptiles such as snakes (both pythons and elapids), lizards (dragons, monitors/goannas, skinks, and geckos), and chelonians (tortoises and turtles).

At Unusual Pet Vets, you will find a lizard veterinarian, herp veterinarian, turtle vet, and for all intents and purposes your dedicated reptile doctor. Your cold-blooded companions will be in the best of hands – and can look forward to a continuously happy and healthy life.

Reptiles can be challenging to look after, especially due to a lot of misinformation that seems to be found everywhere. Each species comes with its own dietary and environmental requirements, making the decision to keep a reptile as a pet one that demands real thought.

What Can We Help With?

Our qualified team is experienced with the latest in quality care and can help with:

General health check-ups including dietary or housing checks

Soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery

Sexing

Behaviour analysis and discussion

Advanced diagnostic imaging (x-rays, ultrasounds and CT)

The downright weird. Check out this video of our team removing a sponge from a king brown snake!

Our veterinarians each have special interests and experience with exotic and unusual pets such as reptiles, and are recognised for their knowledge. There are differences between owning, treating and caring for a reptile – some glaring and some subtle. We know, appreciate and circumvent these differences.

Reptile Vets That Care

The decision to have pet reptile goes beyond reptile care itself. It is a case of time, dedication and  responsibility, but it can very rewarding for you and your pet reptile/s.

The Unusual Pet Vets cater to reptiles across Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Canberra so you’ve come to the right place. Our team has hands-on experience and knowledge in all aspects of reptile veterinary care.

The Unusual Pet Vets will educate you on how best to meet your pet snake’s dietary needs, enclosure preparation and management, as well as day-to-day care. When it comes to the health and happiness of your pet reptile, you can always count on us for personalised care and trusted service.

When Should You Take Your Pet Reptile To The Vet?

Reptiles require an extraordinary amount of care and attention. Sometimes deciding when exactly you should take your reptile to the vet can be difficult.

For starters, it is always a good idea to take your reptile to the vet shortly after you receive them in order to get them checked for any parasites that may later cause illness.

The following are signs and symptoms you should bring your reptile in for expert veterinary care:

Reptile

It is not looking alert, not active and tongue is not moving

Eyes and mouth aren’t clear

It is moving around the enclosure with an open mouth

It is not breathing normally

It is struggling to shed (usually snakes shed all in one go but if it is shedding in little pieces there may be a problem)

It is not eating regularly or omitting a foul odour when it opens its mouth

You notice any skin wounds or lumps

Excellent Service, Caring and Professional Advice

Excellent service, caring and professional advice, and very good handling for our pet bird, on our first visit today at The Unusual Pet Vets, Jindalee. Very helpful, and they also provided further reading for us via email after our appointment regarding a few things we asked about. All staff were lovely and friendly – from the initial phone booking (you can do internet bookings too) to and including the consult. Thank you very much – we’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend.
